MSU Facility for Rare Isotope Beams
Michigan State University's Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (the FRIB) will be the most powerful rare isotope accelerator in the world, allowing scientists to make discoveries about isotopes' properties, nuclear astrophysics, fundamental interactions, and applications for society, including medicine, homeland security and industry.
IBEW Local 665 members employed by Shaw Electric have worked on the FRIB in the linear accelerator tunnel.
Delta Solar Plant
After about a year of construction, the Delta Solar Plant is fully operational. More than 86,000 solar panels in Delta Township now provide electricity for 3,300 homes for Lansing Board of Water & Light customers.
Delta Solar started generating power in late June and reached full capacity of 24-megawatts by August. It is the second largest solar field in Michigan. Only DTE Energy’s 45-megawatt plant in Lapeer is larger. And the string of corporations involved with the new plant reads like a long list of credits in the production of a major movie.
Michigan State Capitol
When Michigan’s State Capitol building was due for a major restoration, IBEW NECA 665 answered the call. Our electrical contractors were hired to modernize the lighting, power and security systems while maintaining the historic interior appearance that made Michigan’s capitol one of the greatest state capitol buildings in the nation.
It was a challenge to renovate nearly every room inside the Capitol building without significantly disrupting the Legislature. Our IBEW electricians and NECA contractors professionally managed the rebuilding of high-voltage electrical distribution systems, the restoration of intricate chandelier light fixtures above the House and Senate chambers, and the installation of energy management and security systems without disturbing the patina that adds so much character to Michigan’s Capitol.
Sparrow Health Center
IBEW 665 and NECA electricians have worked extensively through the years on Sparrow health projects in the Lansing community.
The new Sparrow Health Center Lansing, being erected on the site of the demolished Lansing Medical-Dental Building at 2909 E. Grand River Ave., will consist of three Sparrow Medical Group practices, a drive-thru pharmacy, laboratory, endoscopy and diagnostic imaging — including CT, ultrasound, mammography, MRI and other services.
Spartan Stadium
When you step into Spartan Stadium there is an aura of greatness surrounding you. The feeling of success achieved on the playing field is emblematic of the opportunities for success that embodies the entire Michigan State University campus.
So when NECA contractors and IBEW 665 electricians were employed to enhance the electrical sophistication of the stadium’s lighting, communication, security and energy conservation systems, the opportunity for the NECA-IBEW team to succeed was a challenge met with great enthusiasm.
Lansing Community Projects
From REO Town to the Michigan State Capitol, IBEW 665 and NECA contractors have worked on many of the iconic buildings in Lansing and the surrounding communities.
Projects include the Accident Fund Headquarters, the downtown Lansing Knapp's Building, Lansing's REO Town, Sparrow Hospital and Health Centers, Spartan Stadium, Michigan State University's Wells Hall and the MSU steam loop.
